MCAS Symptom Triggers
It’s often possible for individuals with MCAS to have unique triggers that they notice may worsen symptoms.
Not all individuals with MCAS will experience a reduction in symptoms with a low-histamine diet.
Some individuals with MCAS have unique triggers that do not align with the histamine content of foods.
It’s also possible for those with MCAS to tolerate some high-histamine foods but not others.
Remember, foods are not the only possible trigger for MCAS symptoms. It’s likely that other factors like stress, exercise, chemicals, or outdoor allergens (just as a few examples) contribute towards or trigger symptoms - not just food! Other examples of MCAS symptom triggers can be found here.
Working with a registered dietitian to find a pattern between food intake, lifestyle habits, and symptoms can be helpful in identifying unique triggers.
